Sapphire Green Earth, LLC. is pleased to be a part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) BioPreferred program, a Federal purchasing program for biobased products.
BioPreferred was created by the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (2002 Farm Bill), and expanded by the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (2008 Farm Bill) to increase the purchase and use of biobased products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture manages the program. Additional product development support for biobased manufacturers and Federal environmental purchasing mandates came in October 2009 with Executive Order 13514: Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance. This Administration directive requires Federal agencies to purchase various “green” items (including BioPreferred products) in 95 percent of all applicable contracts. BioPreferred includes a preferred procurement program for Federal agencies and contractors and a voluntary labeling program for the broad-scale consumer marketing of biobased products.
What are the Biobased Products?
As defined by Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (FSRIA), “biobased products” are products determined by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to be commercial or industrial goods (other than food or feed) composed in whole or in a significant part of biological products, forestry materials or renewable domestic agricultural materials, including plant, animal or marine materials.
What are the Benefits of Purchasing Biobased Products?
This historical initiative is helping to create numerous domestic jobs, decreasing dependence on petroleum-based products, and helping promote an environmentally conscious way of life, and a sustainable future. Sapphire Green Earth, LLC is dedicated to providing cutting-edge, biobased, green products that are effective and affordable, as a healthy and safe alternative.
